Facing Racism

Please Commit to these Two Very Important Opportunities for Learning & Dialogue

Facing Racism – A Church Member Study & Conversation

Four Wednesdays, May 31st – June 21st, 7pm

Guided by a resource published by the PC(USA), we will engage in discernment, prayer, dialogue, and worship-based action to take on the struggle to dismantle racism in our congregation and in our communities.

The study will take place over the course of four Wednesday evenings, beginning on May 31st, and concluding on June 21st. The classes will start at 7pm and will meet in room 118 in the church. Please click here to sign up for the class.

What White People Can Do About Racism, 101 – Fundamentals

Saturday, June 17th, 9am-3pm

Along with our Facing Racism class offering, FirstPres will be hosting facilitators from the Center for the Study of White American Culture (CSWAC) to present a workshop for the Caldwell community entitled, “What White People Can Do About Racism – 101: The Fundamentals, Part 1” on Saturday, June 17th.

This 6 hour workshop is intended to give white people some basic knowledge about racial structure, building connections and cross-racial alliances, finding direction on the journey of becoming an effective change agent, and building a personal support network for the work you do. This workshop is appropriate for white people who are open to learning what to do about racism, perhaps feeling they should be doing something but not sure what, and for people of color who want to support white people who desire to take action against racism.

SPACE FOR THIS EVENT IS LIMITED! There are only 21 seats available for this workshop. CSWAC is reserving 10 of those seats exclusively for members of FirstPres. The regular cost for the workshop (which includes lunch, a book, and handout materials, along with the course) is $95 per attendee. However, FirstPres is subsidizing the cost of the workshop with a $50 grant, making the cost for church members only $45 each!

YOU MUST REGISTER ONLINE FOR THE EVENTPlease click this link to register. Use the Promo Code “FPCC” to receive your $50 discount!
We hope you will commit to our four-part “Facing Racism” study for members of the FirstPres congregation, beginning on May 31st, and that you will also register for the community-wide “What White People Can Do About Racism” workshop, presented by CSWAC, on June 17th.

May God grant us peace… and the courage to be the peacemakers we are called to be in Christ’s name.
