GATHERING

REFLECTION

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.

Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP

Called to be light,

we would carry God's hope into the shadows of the world.

Called to be salt,

we would enhance the lives of those around us, with joy.

Called to live in God's reality,

we would welcome everyone as sisters and brothers in faith.

All: Let us worship God

OPENING PRAYER

*HYMN no. 319

“Men of Faith, Rise Up and Sing”

SMITH

Lighting the candles today is Acolyte Alexis Chiappetta.

CONFESSION

CORPORATE CONFESSION

It is true, O God, we break your commandments. Much worse, we break your heart when we point our finger at those who are different from us; when we gossip about friends who are different from us; when we think everything is about us. Forgive us, loving God. We long to know your ways. Open our ears to hear those words we always ignore. Open our eyes to your wonders so we might see them anew. Fill our hearts with the presence of Christ so we might believe and understand the promises you have for us.

PERSONAL CONFESSION

In Christ’s name we pray.

Amen.

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

...Friends, believe the good news.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
