REFLECTION (Romans 12:9-11)

Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in the spirit, serve the Lord.

CALL TO WORSHIP

We have come here as a people of faith,

Thankful for all those who have gone before us.

We stand in awe of so many who have served faithfully and shared and lived the good news.

May their example and their courage be a guide and model for our living.

We are surrounded by the past yet looking toward the future.

A past that reminds us of the blessings and presence of God with us in joys as well as in sorrow.

And a future filled with promises.

A future when death and mourning and crying and pain will be no more.

And God proclaims, “See, I am making all things new.”

Today we worship the one who was, is and is to come.

The flowers this morning, are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of …

… Carol Christiansen Polley by her sister, Gail Marie-Stewart

The red rose this morning celebrates the birth of…

… Declan Patrick Sheanon on October 22, 2014 to Chris and Lauren Sheanon. Grandparents are Tom and Nancy Paterson and maternal great grandmother is Jean Thyren.

The Feast of All Saints falls each year on November 1st and serves to commemorate all Christian people of every time and place. The saints in the New Testament refers to Christians collectively, and it is this understanding of All Saints that has spread among Protestants. This morning we remember those sisters and brothers of our congregation who have died during the past twelve months. We affirm their ministry with us and rejoice in their triumph over death: Doris Brixner, Henry William Donnelly, Phyllis Franciose, Evelyn Martin and John Stafford.

Our thanks to Caroline Fielding and Angie Maxwell for preparing the Lord’s Table today. Please note, so that all may partake, we use gluten free bread. Our Communion servers this week are: Jeannine Archibald, Paul Califf, Sally Cooperson, Debbie Donker, Barbara Heuston, Mike LaBrunda, Andre Massop, Liz Moore, Laura and Mark Schalles.

Your prayers of intercession are requested for those members and friends known to be currently or recently hospitalized or who continue to need our prayers and support:

… Ann Boney, Harry Coppens, Bill Hayden, Ruth Hults, Edith Jipp, Roger Jones, Olga Muller, Marilyn O’Connell, Barbara Piggery, Louise Ritscher, Rob Thiemann, Laura Winter and Helena Wispelwey. The church office will be happy to verify their home addresses for you should you wish to send them words of encouragement or get well wishes.
